During the Chinese New Year (CNY) season, most restaurants only offer set dinners for a fixed number of people for the CNY Eve reunion dinner (团圆饭). As our plans were subject to changes this year, we decided to have a buffet dinner, which gave us more flexibility.

The crayfish was excellent – the meat was juicy and tender, and the chilli sauce it was cooked in gave it a spicy kick so that it wouldn’t be too jelak (rich).

However, the chicken thigh was far too salty. The mussels had great natural flavour and were very chewy, but the texture was slightly sandy. The sweet sauce was also overwhelming

Full of sashimi (salmon, tuna, swordfish, octopus), the live sashimi station was one of the first things that caught our eyes. We were delighted to be served our favourite part of the salmon, the belly. It had the right proportions of fat and meat, which gave us a melt-in-your-mouth sensation.

The dessert bar stole the show. Those cakes ticked all my boxes: they were soft, moist and not too sweet. I never expected myself to enjoy hot durian dessert, but I have to say that the durian pengat was so creamy and fragrant.

spider crab legs, mussels
prawns, scallops

The CNY decorations were just right – not too fancy, not too plain. In fact, the buffet came with Lo Hei (余生) and the spread included CNY snacks. We could see that the restaurant tried to fit into the CNY theme.
Overall rating: 8/10
There was some inconsistency in the standard of the dishes. Nevertheless, most of them were delicious, the dessert bar was top notch and the ambience was quite good.
